Director dies
The Academy awardwinning film director, Vincente Minnelli, died at the week-end after ’ being stricken at his home with complications to a longstanding respiratory illness. Minnelli, aged 83, was a former husband of the singer, Judy Garland, and father of the entertainer, Liza Minnelli. Minnelli won the Oscar for best director in 1958 for “Gigi.” — Los Angeles
