University Vacancies University Vacancies Port Moresby VACANCY Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for the following positions: SENIOR TLJTOR/LECTURERS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE (ESL) — 3 POSITIONS: W091005/86, W091012/86 & W091015/86 Three positions are available in the Service English/Applied Linguistics Sections in the Language ana Literature Department. The Section runs courses in English Language and Study Skills. Also there is scope for involvement in a wider range of Applied Linguistics instruction. Teaching is primarily to students at either pre-University entry level or first year under graduate level and includes students of all faculties. Candidates should possess qualifications in Applied Linguistics or TESL with past related experience. The two Lecturer positions are available immediately and the tutor position will be available early 1987. Applications close 30th August 1986. PROFESSOR OF EDUCATION — WO5lOOl/86 Applications are invited for the position of Professor of Education within the Department of Education. The Department offers a range of pre-service and in-service programmes at diploma and degree levels designed to meet national human resource needs in education. The Professor, who may not necessarily be Head of Department, is expected to provide leadership in teaching and research for the Department and to ensure that the Department's localisation programme is implemented effectively. The Professor is also expected to undertake consultancy work in the national education system. The appointee will have considerable successful teaching experience, preferably in the Third World, substantial internationally recognised academic achievements and demonstrated leadership qualities. Applications are invited from persons with any relevant area of specialisation in education but preference will be given to those with experience m (a) educational philosophy and policy, (b) planning, management and administration and, (c) curriculum theory, research and development. ADVANCED DIPLOMA UNIT Goroko Teachers College The Advanced Diploma in Teaching (Secondary) programme is an in-service programme designed to upgrade the subject knowledge and professional skills of experienced teachers in Papua New Guinea Provincial High Schools, it is a 2 year part-time programme involving residential and distance study sessions. Successful applicants will need to design residential and distance courses and prepare written and audio-visual materials. The successful applicants will have a small teaching load of Advanced Diploma in Teaching students as well. There may be some teaching duties in the pre-service Diploma in Teaching from time to time. The following positions are available: SENIOR TUTORS/LECTURERS SENIOR LECTURERS IN: Teacher Librarianship — G648010/87 Home Economics — G678006/87 Design and Technology — G678007/87 Applicants should have experience in the following areas: woodwork, metalwork, technical drawing or village technology, and preferably teaching experience. Expressive Arts — G618006/87 The person required should have teaching experience with a background in two of the following areas — Dance/Drama, Visual Arts or Music. Experience in teaching Arts in traditional and contemporary settings would be an advantage. Agriculture — G6BBOlO/87 The person required should have teaching experience with a background in Applied Tropical Agriculture and Small Scale Village Projects. Science — G658007/87 Candidates should have a teaching background preferably with experience in the four traditional Science areas. A background in Geology linked to Science, Technology and Society would be an advantage. Professional Studies — G648008/87 The person required should have teaching experience and be qualified in one or more of the following areas: educational psychology, curriculum development, educational administration or teacher development. Applicants should have previous experience in the position applied for and in the preparation of distance education materials for use in a post graduate teacher development programme as well as an advanced degree in their teaching specialisation.
