Frozen body found after 72 years

NZPA-AP Berne A body found last week under 1.86 metres of ice on a Swiss Alps glacier had been identified as a man who disappeared 72 years ago, the police said yesterday. Johannes Naegeli, who was 66, vanished in 1914 on a glacier near 3233 metres Mount Oberaarjoch, in central Switzerland. He was on his way home to the village of Willigen when he

disappeared, the Berne police said. Mr Naegeli was identified through missing person reports and the accounts of Willigen residents. The police said a document on the body had confirmed his identity.

His remains were discovered when two moun-tain-climbers spotted his studded boot sticking out from the ice. Rescuers also found an ice-axe with the body.
