Minister criticises mining industry
The mining industry had a poor reputation and must show it was committed to environmental management, said the Minister of Energy, Mr Tizard, yesterday. One reason for this poor reputation in recent years was the actions of an articulate anti-mining lobby group, mainly concerned with goldmining,
he said. The new Ministry of the Environment would ensure that a proper balance was struck between development and conservation, but Mr Tizard also called on the mining industry to show the public it was committed to environmental management.
