New Elders grain plant opened
A $1.5 million storage and grain handling plant was officially opened in Ashburton yesterday and Mid-Canterbury farmers were told that it indicated confidence in the MidCanterbury rural district. The plant is the latest acquisition of Elders Pastoral N.Z., Ltd, in Ashburton, and according to the South Island plant supervisor, Mr Dick Ellis, 4* will boost the capacity of
the plant by up to three times its present capacity, as well as “creating export quality grain out of dubious quality grain.’’ I A new bulk-bin hand- ■ ling system has also been added which will make | for more efficient grain , sifting. is all designed to make our operation more efficient and competitive,” he said. Mr Matthews was also optimistic about the continuing plight of the New Zealand farmer. “We as a company believe there is a future for farmers and farming in this country,” he said. The new plant covers over 5000 square metres, and was built in just seven months.
