Yachting crews unplaced

PA Wellington New Zealand yachting crews were unplaced in the inaugural Soviet Goodwill Games, held recently in Tallin, capital of Estonia, the Novosti News Service reports. The 1984 Olympic gold medal combination of Rex Sellars and Chris Timins finished last in the Tornado class and Jeffrey Scott and the Olympian, Hamish Wilcox, were fourteenth out of 15 crews in the 470 class. The New Zealanders never really adapted to the boats provided for them and in addition Sellars was competing in his first international event since his success in Los Angeles four years ago. However, Sellars was undaunted by the results and said the crews would now start their serious Olympic training. "The Russian crew looks very strong, they beat the United States yachtsmen in excellent conditions here. The competition didn’t work for us, but as gold medallists I don’t think a loss here was that important. When the time comes for world championships it will be a different story,” he said.
