Vital need in business met
Three Americans named Dalsey, Hillblom and Lind saw, in 1969, a vital need in the commerce world, for a highspeed, secure service that could transport urgent banking and shipping documents. As a result, DHL World-wide Courier was established. According to the company, a major factor in its expansion has been its flexibility and commitment to servicing any area for its extensive client base. In under 16 years increased service has seen a growth from the three initial offices to the present 600. The network is now serviced by fleets of DHL’s own aircraft in the United States, Europe, the United Kingdom and the Middle East. There are helicop-
ters provided for the major cities, thousands of ground support vehicles and even more staff. The Auckland DHL office, which opened in 1973, was the seventh office established outside of the U.S. New Zealand now has eight fully staffed offices. Documents couriered by DHL can reach all cities in Australia within the next, day of despatch, excepting Perth which, because of its geographical distance, takes one more day. South-East Asia receives couriered documents within two to three days, London within two days, Europe within two to three days, and delivery within the United States also varies between two or three days.
