Rats immune to tip poison
PA Wellington Rats have chewed their way through more than $lOO worth of poison at the Paraparaumu tip during the last month. However, in spite of their healthy appetite their numbers are not diminishing, said the Kapiti Borough Council health inspector, Mr Peter Summers. The problem is causing concern to the Health Department. A department inspector visited the tip recently and criticised it. On a second visit to the tip which is handled by a contractor, he found conditions had worsened. The Kapiti Borough engineer, Mr lan Basire, said yesterday the council was “negotiating” with the tip contractor, and was trying to reach a solution to the problem. The public should notice a vast improvement by the end of this month, Mr Basire said.
