500-tonne butter cut
By
PETER O’HARA
N.Z.P.A. Edinburgh European Community Foreign Ministers made a 500-tonne cut to proposed New Zealand butter quotas yesterday to overcome last-minute Irish objections. New Zealand diplomats said they were satisfied at the outcome of the Brussels meeting, after fears this year that imports to Britain could have been slashed by thousands of tonnes.
The exports agreed by Ministers are 76,500 tonnes in 1987 and 74,500 tonnes the next year. In Wellington last evening the Minister ot Overseas Trade, Mr Moore, said the outcome was “most satisfactory.” It was the smallest cut since Britain went into the Community, Mr Moore said. Farmers could be proud of their diplomatic and trade representation. Earlier report, page 3
