Franklin out
NZPA Staff Correspondent Nottingham New Zealand batsman Trevor Franklin will be out of action for at least 10 days after fracturing a top bone in his right thumb while batting against Nottinghamshire on Saturday. The thumb swelled overnight and the Auckland opener had an X-ray yesterday. That was to examined by a specialist today.
“At the moment, it looks as though Franklin won’t be playing for 10 or 12 days,” the New Zealand cricket manager, Mr Glenn Turner, said. That means Franklin, who was not in contention for the first test at Lord’s, will probably not be available until the tourists' second post-test match against Derbyshire, starting on August 2.
