Boat towed home
PA Napier A stricken Napier boat with three people on board was towed back to Napier last evening after an attempted helicopter rescue was aborted. The 7.3-metre Osprey, missing since Sunday night, was found drifting 35km off the Napier coast yesterday afternoon by a Royal New Zealand Air Force Orion.
The Napier police said the Osprey was being towed back to Napier by the Ministry of Fisheries patrol vessel Kotare. The boat’s owner, Mr Eddie Nathan, his friends, Joyce Smith and Matthew Ruru, were reported safe and well.
A rescue helicopter was called into lift the three people from the vessel, but the airlift was aborted when conditions deteriorated. ...
