Purau dinghy pontoon

The Lyttelton Harbour Board’s small craft committee has approved the building of a pontoon beside the Purau jetty to allow the easier launching of dinghies. The Purau Moorings Association will pay for and maintain a big steel tank for use as a pontoon, but wants the Harbour Board to drive the mooring piles and supply a minimum content of labour and materials. Supply and driving of the four piles needed will cost an estimated $4500, plus about $lOOO for timber for the access ramp. The Lyttelton Harbourmaster, Captain J. A. Barbour, had supported the proposal because it should reduce the difficulties experienced by mooring holders in exposed Purau Bay. Members of the small craft committee agreed that the pontoon could also be used for the lifting and inspection of moorings. ARRIVALS Saturday
