World cruise yacht to visit
PA Wellington The yacht Trlshna, crewed by sapper officers of the Indian Corps of Engineers, is due at Auckland today on a round-the-world cruise. The sloop-rigged Trlshna sailed from Bombay last September and is due back there in March. Built by Nautor of Finland, the 12-metre yacht’s expedition is part of celebrations to mark the silver Jubilee of the Yachting Association of India. The cruise has so far taken her to St Helena, Ascension, Georgetown, Port of Spain, Barbados, Jamaica, Panama, Galapagos, Tahiti, Rarotonga and Suva.
After a planned nineday stay at Auckland she will sail for Sydney, Jakarta, Singapore and Colombo.
Heading the six-man crew is the team manager, Colonel Tejpal (“Tipsy”) Chowdhury, who has represented the Corps of Engineers in sailing regattas for several years. The Trishna is skippered by Major Kantamneni Rao, an Indian National Defence Academy sailing and boxing blue.
The Indian High Commissioner to New Zealand, Admiral Stanley Dawson, a former Chief of Indian Naval Staff, will meet the yacht at Auckland.
