Squash trophy triumph

No play-off will be required for the senior women's squash competition for the Kathy Hargreaves Shield after KOol Mount Pleasant established an unassailable lead with one match still to play. Mount Pleasant had also won the second round.

In the latest round, Toni Bird caused a big upset when she beat the nationally ranked Justine Marriott Mount Pleasant scored its tenth 10-point win of the season, seven more than the next best Linwood. The men’s Wilson Shield competition ended with Bumside a comfortable 10 points clear of its closest rivals' Sumner I and Lancaster Park. It had already won the trophy the previous week.

Over the whole inter-club season, comprising both the Blank Trophy and Wilson Shield rounds, the Burnside players lost only seven of the 42 individual matches they contested.

The main disappointment of the Wilson Shield round was the performance of Christchurch, third in the
