Modern standards
Sir,—By what ethical means can the moralities of the New Testament cancel the immoralities of the Old? To suggest that the Jehovah of Moses is “not” the Christian God is ludicrous deviating humbug unworthy of serious debate. Science proving the existence of God is not a contributing factor for this subject. It proposes a totally scientific creator law-giver who instructs that his recently given commandments be broken. Eschewing violence in the Old Testament means that condemnation of modem standards is based on selective morality. Neither Archbishop nor Pope would accept a one Testament Bible so why should anyone else? As the biblical Christian God most definitely approved and directed many massacres of the Old Testament, why should He not approve the slaughter of World Wars I and II? Certainly he did nothing to prevent either, in spite of .the prayers of hundreds of millions of dedicated Christians. — Yours, etc., ARTHUR MAY. July 17, 1986.
