Crushing win to H. Bay
PA Hastings Hawke’s Bay sank the New Zealand Emerging Players with a crushing 38-3 win in a representative rugby match at Nelson Park yesterday. The touring team was submerged by a brilliant display of hard running and skill which brought Hawke’s Bay five tries. The Emerging Players have only one match left in their internal tour in
which to register a win. The new Hawke’s Bay captain, Mark Shaw, was in magnificent form in the loose and the first fiveeighths, Peter O’Shaughnessy, was the most skilled player on the field. O’Shaughnessy scored 18 points from four penalties and three conversions to set the seal on the match.
The composite team was too loose and lacked
commitment on defence with only Neil Sorenson at half-back and the No. 8, Paul Renton, giving competent displays. Scorers.—
Hawkes toy 36: Derek Brooks, Steve Ngamanu, Paul Cooke, Matthew Cooper, Mark Shaw tries; O’Shaughnessy four penalties and three conversions.
New Zealand Emerging Players 3; Mark Benton a penalty.
