Crash brings down pole

The Ministry of Transport has called for witnesses to an accident in St Martins last evening in which a station waggon careered off the road and struck a pole in Wilsons Road, near Riverlaw Terrace, bringing down the pole and power and telephone lines. The accident happened about 5.40 p.m. The driver of the vehicle was taken to Christchurch Hospital. He was not believed to be badly Injured, but his name and condition were not available last evening.
