Royal chat, then back to work

PA Wellington A helicopter pilot, Mr Peter Button, dashed off on yet another rescue mission as soon as he had received an award from Prince Edward at Government House yesterday. Mr Button hardly had time for a word with the Prince after being presented with a Water Safety Council award when his pocket “bleeper” alerted him to a call for help.

He had to fly a rescue helicopter into rugged country 3km off the Paekakariki Hill Road, where a girl, aged 17, was badly injured after falling from a horse. Ambulance officers were alerted to the accident about 9.40 a.m., and reached the girl by a four-wheel-drive vehicle. The ambulance officers decided it would be better to fly the girl out.
