Rangiora merger

The Local Government Commission has announced the final scheme for the merger of the two Rangioras — the borough and the district. They will be united to form a new Rangiora District, on a date to be gazetted. The commission- records in its announcement appreciation for the two local bodies having taken an initiative towards amalgamation, which would well serve as a model for similar reorganisations of other districts.

The final scheme has been announced by the commission after considering 60 written objections to a provisional scheme. . Most of the objections were dismissed but some modifications have been made to accommodate aspects of some of the objections. , The scheme is substantially that worked out by the two councils before asking the commission to prepare a scheme for them.
