Psychologists’ pay lifted
PA Wellington Educational psychologists have been awarded pay rises of between 22 and 38 per cent by the Public Sector Tribunal. The biggest increases were awarded to psychologists at the top of grade one — most members of the profession — who . received rises of about 38 7 percent.
At the top of grade one, a step 10 psychologist’s < pay has gone up from I $29,055 to $40,100, while I the step nine salary is up < from $28,395 to $39,100. 1 The financial settlement < has pleased the primary < teachers’ union, the New 1 Zealand Educational Institute, which acted for the ; psychologists. Psychologists are not employed by individual schools but by education boards. They may be called on by parents or teachers to work with children with psychological needs or work in family courts. There is a shortage of 26 educational psychologists, a point on which the N.Z.E.I. based much of its cieim.
