Farm help a sop, says Mr Beetham
PA Wellington
The Government’s longawaited farm package was superficial, inadequate and belated, said the Democratic Party Leader, Mr Bruce Beetham.
“Following what must be the greatest infliction of economic discrimination by Government upon any group in New Zealand’s history, this belated
relief package is an insulting sop, and tokenism of the most patronising kind,” he said. “Only a dramatic further reduction in interest rates and a lowered and fixed exchange rate, followed by a moratorium on debt demands to all the financial institutions that have waxed fat on the Government’s free market binge, will restore any viability to farming.”
