Levin Winter Cup worth $12,000

PA Levin A substantial increase in sponsorship by Lion Breweries means the 1600 metre Levin Winter Cup is now worth $12,000. The race, which will run at the Levin Racing Club’s meeting on July 16, will be known as the Lion Red Levin Cup. The boost in stakemoney for the event represents a 50 per cent increase. The secretary of the Levin Racing Club said the extent of the sponsorship had allowed the club raise the stake to a

level where most owners and trainers of top-class winter gallopers would find the cup an attractive lead-up race for the C. J. C. Winter Cup. Many high class winter gallopers have contested the cup in previous years including Kerykeion, Melbeck, In The Glen, Ramora, Al Dwain, Stanley Frank, London Trader, Idaho’s Gift, Super Tai and Alley Oop. Always Summer and Abe’s Order both went on to win the Winter Cup after racing in the Levin i Winter Cup. i
