Conference profit exceeds $121,000

PA • Wellington The N.Z. Trotting Conference recorded a profit of $121,181 for the financial year at the end of March, double the profit of the previous year. The conference treasurer, Mr Bruce Woods, said in his report to the annual conference of New Zealand trotting club representatives in Wellington yesterday that major contributors to the profit were a greater income received from the levy clubs pay to the racing conference and the high interest received on investments. He said he would be recommending that the levy rate is kept at .48 per cent of the club’s T.A.B. turnover. The treasurer also noted that the New Zealand Trotting Calendar, the official organ of the conference, recorded a profit of $26,840 for the last financial year. Biit despite this profit, which was described as a “very satisfactory result,” in the new season the trotting calendar will still be replaced by a new publication to be named the New Zealand Harness Racing Weekly. The new-season publication will attempt to attract more readers from the public with fields, form and previews for trotting meetings and will continue to carry the sport’s official information.
