Caller shot after alleged harassment
PA Auckland A New Lynn man shot a Jehovah's Witness caller in the leg because he felt he was being pushed into marriage by the religion, the Henderson District Court has been told. Albert Edwin Webb, aged 65, a retired coachmaker, admitted shooting Jonathan -Cobley with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Sergeant John Ponsford told the court Mr Cobley had Shocked on Webb’s door during religious
visits. Webb opened the door and without a word, shot Mr Cobley in the thigh. Webb had told police the church did not want him to stay single; they wanted him married off, Sergeant Ponsford said. It had been harassing him over the years and he had a sign warning the callers to stay off his property.
Judge Anand Satyan and remanded him on $l5OO bail for sentence in the High Court on July-29.
