Honour Bright sold
PA Wellington ' A Hastings businessman has purchased one of this season’s better performed three-year-olds, Honour Bright.
The horse’s previous owner-trainer, Kitch Newsome of Stratford, died suddenly last month. The new owner is Gary Harding, who was in the news recently when making a six-figure bid for the unraced two-year-old, Arctic Wolf. The bid was not accepted and Arctic Wolf went on to record a highly-impressive winning debut at Hastings.
Following the death of Mr Newsome, Honour Bright entered the Stratford stable of Dick Bothwell but never raced for him. The horse is now with a Hastings trainer, Dave Jones. Jones said the deal was clinched last Friday but he had no idea what Honour Bright’s future racing programme would be. “I haven’t got a clue. We’ll just have to play it by ear to begin with,” Jones said.
He would not disclose the purchase price other than to say Harding was “quite happy with what he paid”. Honour Bright has won seven races to date, including the Innsbrook Wellington Guineas, in which he denied the glamour three-year-old Avon’s Lord a $lOO,OOO bonus, and more recently openß, class sprints at Hawera and Awapuni.
