More time to finish plan
NZPA Richmond, Virginia A Federal judge has granted the former manufacturer of the Daikon shield contraceptive, A.H. Robins Company, another 90 days to finish a reorganisation plan for paying off debts, but scolded the pharmaceutical company about how long the job was taking. The Richmond-based company filed last August , 21 for protection from
creditors under United States bankruptcy law, in the wake of mounting Daikon Shield claims. Robins sold the intrauterine birth-control device in the mid-19705, but took it off the market after women complained about infections and other injuries. Under a programme from January to April, about 340,000 potential Daikon Shield claimants notified the United States
bankruptcy court of their interest in the Robins case. Those claimants were sent questionnaries. Monday was the deadline for the return of questionnaires from United States claimants. Foreign claimants have until July 30. Robins initially had 120 days to file a reorganisation plan but Monday’s extension was the third the company has received.
