Waikato Times Cup stake now $100,000

PA Hamilton The Waikato Racing Club has announced a fifty per cent increase in stakes for events it will be holding over the next six months.

Total stake money for the four meetings in the period has been raised by $196,000, resulting in total stakes of $541,000 being on offer.

The biggest increase is the additional $30,000 in the stake for the Waikato Times Cup on November 22, making it a $lOO,OOO class 1 event. The minimum stake on Waikato Times Cup Day is $lO,OOO. The club is presently negotiating additional sponsorship arrangements and this could lead to even further stakes increases for the next few months.

The major change in programmes is the introduction of the inaugural $60,000 Cambridge Stud Sir Tristram Classic for three-year-old fillies, to be run at the Labour Day meeting. It is significant that the club’s Labour Day meeting has been given a substantial boost and in addition to the Sir Tristram Classic there are two races worth $20,000 each,

One of these will be The Lion Brown New Zealand Cup Trial. Lion Breweries has sponsored two New Zealand Cup trials as a lead up to the Riccartoh feature on November 15. The other will be held at Riccarton on October 18. The owners of the winner of the Te Rapa race will be offered a subsidised flight for their horse to Christchurch if they wish to contest the New Zealand Cup. The Mannings Quality Handicap, . run over 1600 m, will also be worth $20,000, an increase of $ll,OOO.

Ambassador Motor Inn Handicap, Cl, 2200 m: $20,000 (up $13,000). Monday, October 27 (Labour Day): Mannings Quality Handicap, Cl, 1600 m: $20,000 (up $11,000).
