Air traffic control
Sir, —We wish to correct any possible misconceptions which may have arisen from a Press Association article of June 30 which quoted Mr Tony Chapman, president of the New Zealand Air Traffic Controllers’ Association. It is true that any safety restrictions imposed because of system inadequacies could not be reviewed until the satisfactory completion of an air traffic control modernisation programme. However, we have no wish to be drawn into discussions as to the viability of any proposed air services. Such considerations are matters for the Government and airlines’ management and are outside the areas of concern of this association. The services we perform are provided to all users of New Zealand air space without favour to any particular operator and we would not wish to see this impartiality compromised. — Yours, etc., G. B. QUINN. Chairman, Christchurch Branch, N.Z.A.T.C.A. June 30, 1986.
