New lights for Memorial Ave
A new street lighting system for Memorial Avenue, costing $135,455, was approved by the Walmalri District Council works, reserves and traffic 1 committee last evening.
The lighting will be installed between Greers Road and Clyde Road, and consists of 50 concrete standards next to the. property boundary, with 3m outreach arms of 10.67 m in height and 250 watt lights.
A report to the committee said the system provided flexibility for future widening proposals on Memorial Avenue, but had the possible disadvantage that residents would have more light in their front yards. All submissions are still under consideration. Styx Mill The land in the western part of the Styx Mill Basin . Reserve will be leased on a month-to-month basis by the council, and the land
in the east on a year-to-year basis. Public notice of the lease has been given, and five submissions have been received. These include a proposal by the Willowbank Wildlife Reserve that the council enter into a joint venture to establish a farm park and wildlife area. - Other submissions include using the land for pastoral farming, grazing goats and cattle.
