Agreements falsified
A self-employed company director gave no explanation to the police for fraudulently obtaining $66,197 , from an investment company by falsifying 15 vehicle hire-pur-chase agreements, said Sergeant P. Baker in the District Court yesterday. Alan Leslie O’Keefe, aged 41 (Mr T. J. Toomey), was convicted by Judge Pain, and remanded on bail of $6OOO to July 15 for a probation report and sentence. At the request of the police, the Judge suppressed the name of the investment company. Sergeant Baker said the defendant operated a car sales business between May 1984, and January; this year, and prepared 15. hire-purchase agreements with the investment com-
pany. When the company later became concerned at a number of repayments falling behind, an investigation revealed that 15 agreements were fraudulent As a result of • the frauds, O’Keefe, a first offender, obtained $66,197 from the investment company. -r The defendant had since repaid $17,769 to the company. He offered no comment, or explanation to the police "on legal advice.” “ ; Compensation »' of $48,428 was sought from the defendant, said Sergeant Baker. ? 1 During the period until sentencing, the Judge allowed ball of $2OOO with two sureties of the same amount. ■
