Pumas thrashed
NZPA-AAP Brisbane Argentina’s coach, Hector Silva, is in a quandary over what tactics to try in next Sunday’s rugby test against Australia after his Pumas suffered their worst defeat against a provincial side at Ballymore Oval, in Brisbane, yesterday. “A disaster,” was all Mr Silva had to say after Queensland thrashed the Pumas, 59-9. And it could have been worse. The Wallaby five-
eighths, Michael Lynagh, scored 19 points but missed nine kicks which could have boosted the margin considerably. For the Queenslanders, it was a matter of completely turning the tables after the touring French side handed them a 10 try to nil pasting last month. Before Ballymore’s biggest mid-week crowd, Bob Templeton’s Maroons turned in what the coach said was one of their best performances of the season.
The test wing, Peter Grigg, showed a dazzling return to form and picked up two tries along with the full-back, Greg Martin, standing in for the injured Roger Gould. Scorers.— Queensland 59: Peter Grigg (2), Greg Martin (2), Jeff Miller, Brian Smith, Michael Lynagh, Brendan Moon, Greg Hassall, Julian Gardner tries; Lynagh 5 conversions and 3 penalties. Argentina 9: Rafael Madero 2 penalties, Fabian Tumes a dropped goal.
