Donizetti likely to miss Washdyke race
By

Donizetti disappointed his trainer, John Bourne, in a gallop at Riccarton yesterday and is unlikely to race at the Timaru meeting on Friday. Donizetti was unable to match Irish Indian in their gallop on the No. 6 grass, dropping away into
a gap of three lengths. They had worked up to speed slowly from near the 1400 m then quickened from the 600 m, Irish Indian finishing that sector in 38.45. Donizetti’s lacklustre run had his trainer puzzled. “He’s bright enough in himself, and I would expect him to bowl into his work on an easy track, but that gallop was not good enough to earn him a start at Washdyke,” Bourne said yesterday. Irish Indian goes to Washdyke as a form runner for the third leg of the T.A.B. treble and the mount of John Dowling. Earlier, Irish Indian’s stablemate, Blyme, ran
600 m on the chip track in 40.45. He won in style at Oamaru at his last start, and goes after a second successive win for the Kenneally stable in the first leg of the Timaru T.A.B. double. Giveaway, one of Blyme’s rivals on Friday, and the mount of top jockey Lance O’Sullivan, finished her work by running 600 m on the grass in 39.25. Buller shaped like an early ' winner for the Kevin Miller stable when running 600 m keenly in 38.85. Miller has returned from Ashburton to rejoin the ranks of Riccarton trainers.
