Seeds scattered in junior tennis G.P.

John Honeywell gained an anticipated win in the open boys’ final, but not all the top seeded players were as fortunate in the Canterbury Junior Grand Prix tennis singles tournament at Wilding Park. As a member of the Canterbury Wilding Shield squad, it was not surprising that Honeywell beat Andrew Batie comfortably with his serve and volley game. However, the favoured player in the open girls’ division, Gretchen Loe, was beaten in the semifinals by Joanna Ceelan, who went on the claim the final. Another top seeded player, Justine Williams, went down to Rosemary Challies in the semi-finals of the 14 years girls’ grade, with Belinda Bennett prevailing in the final. David Inkson had a not-

able tournament, beating the 10 years boys’ top seed, Nicholas Johnson, in the semi-finals and then the second-seeded Richard Worley in the final.
