RCA Colombia Hoyts latest offerings include: Burke and Wills (PG) A great adventure about two men’s dreams to cross a vast unknown. This is a story of hope, and a tale that entertains and inspires. It stars Jack Thompson, Nigel Havers and Greta Scacchi.
Sylvester. Winning begins with a dream and 16-year-old Charlie dreams of the day she can train a horse at the Texas stockyard for Olympic competition. All she has, however, is an unlikely contender — an unmanageable, fleabitten, grey, former rodeo horse she affectionately nick-names Sylvester Stallone. Starring Richard Farnsworth and Melissa Gilbert. Silverado. A movie that is everything a western should be — unlikely heroes, a corrupt sheriff, a pretty heroine, a twotiming gambler, wide open spaces, lots of horses, rustlers and dirty, low-down varmints. Buck And The Preacher. Another western, set in the turbulent days following the Civil War. There are two stars in this one — Sidney Poitier and Harry Belafonte.
GRAHAM PARKER
The new releases from the Roadshow, Premiere and Palace labels include: The Never Ending Story (G). A young boy escapes the neighbourhood bullies by retreating into a mysterious book that takes him into a shimmering world of creatures, giant forests and massive oceans — an awesome world, but a world in decay. Starring Noah Hathaway and Barret Oliver. Archer (PG). Based, on a true story about Archer, the first Melbourne Cup winner, and perhaps the greatest Australian horse. A moving story, starring Brett Climo and Robert Coleby. Breaking AH The Rules (M). Jack Fleming is a schemer, just, begging for excitement. You could knock him down and he would still beg for more.
That is just what happens when Debbi storms into his life. Starring Carl Marotte and Carolyn Dunn. Dance With A Stranger. The story of Ruth Ellis, convicted of the murder of a cruel man who she loved, but he had demanded more than she could give. Ruth was the last woman to be hanged in England. Rainy Day Friends. People had given 17-year-old Neekos Valdez up as doomed. Living in the streets, into drug abuse and petty crime, there was no hope of this hot-tempered young man ever seeing 18. However some have to beat the odds, and Neekos was a fighter. The Toxic Avenger. A madcap spoof of “The Hulk.” This film has plenty of ingredients that will make it a winner, but it is not for children.
