Cheaper L.P.G. likely
PA New Plymouth Motorists should have cheaper liquefied petroleum gas within a few weeks as the Government approves proposals put to it by the L.P.G. industry, the Taranaki “Daily News” reports. The national L.P.G. distributor, Liquigas, asked the Government for help
in May to retain its share of the liquid fuels market. Proposals included about a sc-a-litre equivalent price drop, softer conversion loans and other incentives to increase the number of retail outlets and vehicle conversions. The Ministry of Energy has been considering the
L.P.G. package ; for ... the last few weeks and it is believed agreement on the whole package is imminent.
It is believed the Government has authorised a Cabinet committee to consider the issue and act on its behalf. Liquigas wanted the Government to consider the matter urgently as L.P.G. vehicle conversions, have dwindled drastically this year. Petrol has dropped 17c a litre recently, but L.P.G. has dropped only Ic.
