Violence blamed on alcohol
PA Wellington Alcohol is to blame for so much violence in society that it is “approaching frightening proportions,” according to the Minister of Maori Affairs, Mr Wetere. He said at the opening of new headquarters of the Alcoholic Liquor Advisory Council’s Maori training and resource centre, Te Ara Hou ’in Auckland, that alcohol ’ was the lubricant for last year’s Queen Street riot. “Sadly there is increased violence in schools which is often traced to alcohol and through drugs and pills and solvents,” Mr Wetere said. “As far as I know most children sniffing glue are children of alcoholics .or those with serious drinking problems.”
