Council about-face on pay
PA Auckland A change of mind by Waitemata City councillors about accepting a year’s back pay will cost ratepayers an estimated $45,000. The council, which made headlines in April
when it voted to reject back-dated increases in allowances, has decided to accept the money. Councillors rescinded a resolution refusing the pay and voted that the Mayor, Mr Tim Shadbolt, Deputy Mayor, Mr
Bob Stannic, and committee chairmen and councillors take the pay they were entitled to. The backpay is worth $9610 to the Mayor, whose allowance was raised from $27,850 to $37,460 by the Higher. Salaries Commission.
