Cup joy in Argentina

NZPA-Reuter Buenos Aires Argentines celebrated in the streets in an outburst of joy and national unity after their country’s 3-2 soccer victory over West Germany in the World Cup. Isolated incidents left two people dead, one of whom was crushed, at least two seriously injured, and more than 200

in jail, police sources said. The celebrations were generally without violence although noisy, colourful and exuberant. President Raul Alfonsin telephoned the team coach, Carlos Bllardo, with his congratulations. “We Argentines are living moments of joy,” Mr Alfonsin said. Newspapers and magazines issued special editions to mark the event.
