Solid squash from Jones
Elliott Jones (Christchurch) played tight, controlled squash to secure a straight games win over Craig Hibbert (Linwood) in the Burnside Feltex Spalding Open tournament yesterday. In the women’s open grade the experienced Kathy Hargreaves proved too strong for all her opponents. Results:—
Men’s open.—Semi-finals: E. Jones (Christchurch) beat G. Peacock (Burnside), 8-10,
9-6, 9-3, 9-1; C. Hibbert (Unwood) beat M. Allred (Burnside), 9-6, ,7-9, 9-3, 9-4. Final: Jones beat Hibbert, 9-6, 9-1, 9-1.
Women’s open.—Semifinals: K. Hargreaves (Bumside) beat S. McKinnon (High School Old Boys), 9-4, 9-6, 9-0; D. Church (Linwood) beat C. Cantwell (Marist), 9-6, 9-5, 97. Final: Hargreaves beat Church, 9-4, 9-7, 9-2. Other division winners.— Division one men: K. Bowry (Unwood). Division two men: M. Cassidy (Unwood). Division one women: G. Schroder (Marist).
