Sir, — The suggestion that New Zealand becomes a bilingual nation is patently absurd. Most of New Zealand’s population has yet to master English. Two glaring examples of lack of skill in English appeared in your paper on Friday, June 20. On page 24 an unfortunate health inspector was described as being made nauseous by the mushroom

factory. Peering up drains is not without its hazards, but for the poor fellow to become nauseous is a bit much. Nauseated perhaps? Furthermore, on page 10 your correspondent, E. Bedo, describes a “Truth” photo showing David Lange “marching.” Mr Bedo is usually much more precise, but to describe the Prime Minister’s system of locomotion as marching is ludicrous. — Yours, etc.,

BILL REID. June 20, 1986.
