Hassles of a lie-in

PA Auckland Hundreds of South Auckland train commuters were late for work yesterday because the Papakura stationmaster slept in. The air was cold, but passengers from Papakura to the city who waited for the 5.50 a.m. train were breathing

fire, not ice, when it arrived 50 minutes late. The late train threw the rest of the South Auckland trains out for the rest of the morning, said the Railways regional traffic manager, Mr Dan O’Loan. Mr O’Loan said the stationmaster at Papakura had slept in, and so the first train had not

been able to leave Papakura until another staff member was sent into work by taxi.

Meanwhile, passengers up the. line were finding alternative ways of getting to work.

Mr O’Loan said the unfortunate stationmaster would be asked to write a report*
