AUSTRALIA Markets close slightly easier
NZPA-AAP Sydney Australian sharemarkets closed marginally easier in thin trading, with support for quality industrials offset by a falling BHP in late trading. At the close, the all ordinaries index had eased 0.1 points to 1214.8 and the all resources 1.1 to 663.2. The all industrials index added 1.3 to 1942.8 and the gold index 7.7 to 935.6. National turnover was 59.5 million shares worth sAustlOs.7M, with rises outnumbering falls 262 to 231. BHP eased 4c to 876, while Elders IXL and the Bell Group each added 10c to 485 and 950 respectively. Industrial stocks were generally firmer with Amcor up 10c to 350, high-tech pair, Scalzo and Sarich 20c and 10c each to 190 and 1900, lEL 10c to 696 and CIG 5c to 380. FAI fell 4c to 806, Pacific Dunlop 7c to 335 and retailers Woolworths and Coles 7c and 4c each to 298 and 546. Early interest in developers Hooker and Lend Lease waned and both finished unchanged on 275 and 920.
