Death in car fire
PA Hamilton A Te Awamutu woman, aged 18, was killed when a car ran off the road and caught fire just south of Te Awamutu early yesterday. The woman, whose name has not yet been given by the police, was trapped in the car. The car, with seven people in it, failed to take a corner on Korokanui Road/about 1.30 a.m. and crashed down a bank, landing on its roof. The six other passengers escaped from the vehicle and were later taken by ambulance to Waikato Hospital with moderate and minor injuries.
