Inquiry into woman’s death
PA Palmerston North The police launched a homicide inquiry yester- • day after the death in hospital on Saturday evening of a young Palmerston North woman. She was Joanne Warren, aged 21, mother of a daughter, aged four. Miss Warren was found on the lounge floor of her home on Saturday morning suffering from head injuries. She was taken to Palmerston North hospital where she died at 8.20 p.m. A police team is investigating her death and is trying to trace her movements on Friday night. Her house has been cordoned while forensic and fingerprint experts from Wellington examine it. A post-mortem examination revealed that Miss Warren died from a blow to the head from a weapon which has yet to be found. The police said yesterday that Miss Warren was dropped off at her home about 1 a.m. on Saturday after attending a social function in the city. She was found by a relative shortly before 10 a.m. on Saturday. Her daughter, now staying with relatives, was being cared for elsewhere on Friday night while Miss Warren was out.
