NZPA-Reuter Edinburgh The British publishing tycoon, Robert Maxwell, was appointed to manage the business side of the Edinburgh Commonwealth Games in a move organisers said would rescue the finances of the event.

The organisers said Mr Maxwell, millionaire owner of the “Mirror” newspaper group and other publishing enterprises, had secured funds through approaches to businessmen which they hoped would meet a projected $4.3 million loss threatening the Games.
