Nuclear stance

Sir,—l wish to correct an error in Susan Taylor’s otherwise superb letter (June 17). Nowhere in Marxist-Leninist writings can there be found reference to “Russian world domination." This is a prime poison-point of persuasive economic-politlcal-re-

ligious propaganda relentlessly fostered by fearful United States administrations for gullible people. Marxist-Leninist philosophy is the nearest thing to the Sermon on the Mount, universal in scope and a philosophy conceived decades before Russia was even thought of. From Marx and Engels, down to Lenin and, implicitly, Gorbachev, the rallying call was, and still is, “Workers of ail lands, unite; you have nothing to lose but your chains. You have a world to gain.” Despite ferocious opposition, the world is taking MarxLeninism at its word with several more countries on the up-and-coming road, the road to a prosperous and peaceful world, a human united brotherhood of equality. — Yours, etc., W. J. COLUNS. June 17. 1986.

Sir,—Here in West Germany, 3000 medical doctors from countries of all political persuasions have been meeting at the sixth world congress of the International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War. They are convinced that the major public health risk of our times is not communism or capitalism, but nuclear proliferation. They know that the only therapy is prevention, as in nuclear war they have no cure for mankind. Mr David Lange spoke to our congress, was given a wonderful reception and wide media coverage. New Zealand citizens should know that the leading anti- . nuclear stance taken by the New Zealand Government is being widely applauded here in Europe. A large block of the international medical community is also greatly encouraged by New Zealand’s fight against the nuclear threat. The so-called “Kiwi disease” is clearly a contradiction in terms. The New Zealand action is regarded by many people all over the globe as an important initial dose of preventive medicine against the nuclear plague.—Yours, etc., RUSSELL TREGONNING. Cologne, June 1, 1986.
