Lermontov secrecy decried

New Zealand master mariners believe that an air of secrecy over the facts of the Mikhail Lermontov sinking is bringing their profession into disrepute. The sinking was discussed at a recent meeting in Christchurch of the New Zealand Company of Master Mariners. - The company, which represents about 400 masters, has written to the Minister of Transport, Mr Prebble, urging him to release details of the preliminary enquiry into the sinking. The present lack of information had led to public and news media speculation and an air of secrecy on the facts of the sinking which was bringing the profession of master mariner into disrepute, the company told Mr Prebble.
