Feeds flourish
The excellent weather for plant growth in late summer and autumn was reflected in the high standard of entries in the annual winter feed competition organised by the Northern A. and P. Association.
The contest was judged last month by farmers and M.A.F. representatives.
Most points in the contest were won by I. Ford, who received a prize of wet-weather gear from Elders Pastoral. The first place-getter in each class received two bags of urea from Petrocorp and the winner of the Robert Mclntosh Memorial Prize
for class 1 was G. Fulton and for class 4 M. Fleming.
Results: — Class 1, best brassicas: G. Fulton 1, B. Hurley 2. Class 2A, best permanent pasture, sheep: I. Ford 1, Fear and Gilchrist 2, S. Ashworth 3. Class 2B best permanent pasture, dairy: K. Dailey 1, C. G. Bailey 2, Spark Brothers 3. Class 3, new grass: I. Ford 1, G. Fulton 2, Stevenson Brothers 3. Class 4 greenfeed: M. Fleming 1, A. Maindonald 2, I. Ford 3. Class 5, best 2ha of fodderbeet or mangels: D. Eder 1. Class 5, best mixed winterfeed: Stevenson Brothers 1 and 2.
