FUTURES $US contract up
The United States dollar contract rose 560 points, or $2BOO, for the July month as the New Zealand dollar was slogged by overnight selling overseas and again on the New Zealand foreign exchange market yesterday. However, the two commodities contracts — wool and wheat — failed to react to the fall of the New Zealand dollar. Mr Guy Spooner, a trader for Marshall Futures, said yesterday that the wheat contract had firmed only slightly, partly because of the currency movement and also because of better prices for Australian wheat. Wool was considerably weaker in the morning, dropping about 4 per cent, but it came back to Wednesday’s level as the New Zealand dollar continued to ease. Both interest rate contracts were quieter as they awaited today’s Government stock tender results, he said.
