Hospital executive for U.S.

The Canterbury ' Hospital Board’s chief executive, Mr Ron Parker, will go to the United States in September to study for a master’s degree in public health.

He will attend the University of Texas School of Public Health at the Health Science Centre in Houston.

Mr Parker will major in community health care and health services organisation. He plans to finish the two-year course in one academic year, and will return to New Zealand in July next year.

Mr Parker said he believed that because of changes in New Zealand’s health care services, particularly the introduction of area health boards, the course would be very relevant.

His studies will be sponsored by the Hospital Board and the Health Department. The deputy chief executive, Mr Bill Watson, will be acting chief executive while Mr Parker is away.
